Devicethread - How to use

Devicethread is a seamless integration that automates the creation and management of door codes for your guests, directly from your Cloudbeds platform. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to set up and use the integration.

1. Connect Your Accounts

First, you'll need to create or log in to your existing Devicethread account. Once you're ready, connect your Devicethread account to Cloudbeds.

2. How Door Codes Are Generated and Activated

Once the connection is established and the setup is complete, the synchronization process begins automatically with every new reservation you receive.

  1. Automatic Code Generation: When a guest books a room, Cloudbeds notifies Devicethread, which then automatically generates a unique door code. This code is sent to a custom field in the guest's reservation within Cloudbeds.
  2. Code Activation: The door code becomes active in one of two ways:
    - When you manually change the reservation status in Cloudbeds from "Confirmed" to "In-House.
    - Automatically, by default, the code will activate 15 minutes before the check-in time you have set in Cloudbeds.

Troubleshooting Door Codes

If a door code fails to work for any reason, you can easily troubleshoot it:

  1. Resend: You can resend the existing code to the lock directly from Devicethread.
  2. Regenerate: You can also regenerate an entirely new code.

Any changes you make in Devicethread will automatically update in the guest's reservation in Cloudbeds.

3. Communicating Door Codes to Guests

Devicethread does not communicate door codes directly to your guests. Instead, you'll need to use Cloudbeds' email scheduling feature to send the code.

To do this, you must first create a custom email template that includes the custom field for the door code. This ensures the correct code is automatically populated for each guest.
