What is a Master Brand, and what are the requirements for the VRBO API integration?

A "Master Brand" determines the country, language, and currency in which you will be advertised. When setting up your integration, it's essential to adhere to the requirements of your primary ("master") brand site.

  1. Language Requirements:
Your listing content must be provided in the native language of your master brand site. For example, if your master brand is Abritel (France), you must provide content in French.
  2. Currency Requirements:
Your master brand's currency will be used for all booking transactions.
When you set your currency with your Vrbo Account Manager, ensure it is the same.

Vrbo only supports the following currencies: USD, CAD, EUR, GBP, AUD, NZD, and JPY.

Here's a list of all Vrbo master brands:

Master Brand Site Language Currency
Abritel (France) French (fr) EUR
Fewo-Direkt (Germany) German (de) EUR
Vrbo (Austria) German (de) EUR
Vrbo (New Zealand) English (en) NZD
Vrbo (England) English (en) GBP or EUR
HomeAway (US) English (en) USD or CAD
Vrbo (Australia) English (en) AUD
Vrbo (Spain) Spanish (es) EUR
Vrbo (Italy) Italian (it) EUR
Vrbo (Japan) Japanese (ja) JPY
Vrbo (Portugal) Portuguese (pt) EUR
Vrbo (Singapore) English (en) USD
Vrbo Admin (US) English (en) USD or CAD

Ensure that your listings meet these requirements to avoid integration issues and optimize your reach across Vrbo’s network of sites.

 Identifying Your Master Brand

If you're unsure of your master brand, please contact your Engagement Manager for assistance.

Can I sync multiple units of the same room type on VRBO API?

Yes. Unlike VRBO iCal, once your listing is synced to Cloudbeds via API, our system will send VRBO the total number of rooms you have available per accommodation type.

Why does the channel have a Pending status?

Vrbo API is required to complete the onboarding process first and review the connection on their side.

Once you complete the setup steps and the channel status becomes Pending, you will receive a self-service form via email. The email includes a Self-Service Onboarding link, which is required to complete the Vrbo Self-Service Onboarding form and finish the final setup steps with your Vrbo Onboarding Manager.

Why are VRBO API reservations not canceled or modified immediately?

The process of canceling or modifying a reservation is not immediate. When a user cancels a reservation on Cloudbeds PMS, it may take up to 24 hours for the status to reflect on the Vrbo platform.

Additionally, if a reservation made through the VRBO API is modified within the Cloudbeds PMS system, while the revised stay dates will reflect on the VRBO side, any payment processed by VRBO for the reservation remains unchanged. Consequently, any adjustments or refunds required must be handled directly by the property.

Why do I receive error emails from VRBO?

Vrbo, unlike any other connection, does not send us error information via API. Instead, they use emails. Those reports are the property's main way to know if there are any errors/issues with their listings.

You can reach out to your Vrbo regional contact listed here to talk about the value they should be getting from these emails and if the cadence can be reduced.

Does VRBO API support channel payment collect?

You must keep in mind that Vrbo API only supports hotel payment collection. If your property uses a Vrbo iCal connection + Channel payment collect and wants to move to the Vrbo API, you should change the payment collect type. Vrbo iCal can be Channel Collect, but Vrbo API cannot—you must move to Hotel Collect and process the payments if you opt for the API connection.

How do I connect a new VRBO listing?

You need to configure the Cloudbeds accommodation using the Accommodation Details step. This can be either an existing accommodation that has not yet been set up for the Vrbo API connection or a newly added Cloudbeds accommodation.

  1. From your AccountAccount menu.png, click on Settings Settings.pngand go to Distribution Distribution icon.png
  2. On the Discover tab, go to VRBO (API) and click on Manage

  1. Go to Accommodation Details and click View/Edit

  1. Configure the desired accommodation and Save
