Market Segments in Cloudbeds PMS allow you to categorize reservations based on guest type, booking channel, or rate strategy. This article explains how market segments are applied automatically or manually during the reservation process and how they interact with rate plans and group allotments.
Market Segments in Rate Plans
When creating or editing a rate plan, you can associate it with a market segment:
- Navigate to Rate Plans & Packages in the main menu
- Click to edit the rate plan in the corresponding menu
- Scroll down to the Market Segment drop-down menu and select the segment that best represents the intended guest type for that rate.
🔄 Automatic Application: When a reservation is made using a rate plan with an assigned segment, that market segment is automatically applied to the reservation.
⚠️ Fallback: If no market segment is selected for a rate plan, the reservation will use the default market segment set in your system settings.
Manual Market Segment Selection in Reservations
When creating a reservation manually:
- Users can select or override the market segment for each accommodation in the reservation.
- This ensures flexibility when the booking doesn’t match the segment associated with the rate plan.
- Example: A guest books using a corporate rate plan, but the purpose is personal travel. You can override the default segment to better reflect the actual guest intent.
- You can see the Market Segment in any reservation details.
Custom Group Allotment Block and Market Segments
- Reservations associated with an allotment block will inherit the market segment set on the Group Allotment Block.
- Users can override the suggested market segment and assign a different one to a reservation based on their operational needs. This allows flexibility in cases where a specific booking requires manual categorization outside of the default.
To assign a market segment to a Group Allotment Block:
- Navigate to Groups in the main menu
- Select the Group you want to edit the market segment
- Go to the Allotment Blocks tab
- Click to create or edit an allotment block
- Choose a Market Segment from the drop-down:
