Set up and Manage Market Segments

Market Segments help categorize reservations and rate plans based on guest type or booking purpose. This article walks you through how to configure Market Groups and Segments in Cloudbeds PMS, customize them to fit your business, and manage their lifecycle.

Things to note before getting started

• Only users with the appropriate permission level can create or edit market segments.

• Market Segment data is not applied retroactively. Only new reservations created after the feature is enabled will include segment data.

• Reservations using Base Rate pricing will inherit the default market segment.

Access the Market Segments Setup Page

In Cloudbeds PMS,

1. Navigate to Account -> Settings
2. Go to Property -> Market Segments tab
3. You'll see two types of segments:
   1. Prepopulated Segments (based on USALI standards)
   2. Custom Segments (created by your property)

What you’ll find on the Market Segments configuration page:

1. A table with all the existing Market Segments: 

   • Market Group: Broad categories such as Transient, Group, or Contract

   • Market Segment: Specific guest types under each group (e.g., Retail, Corporate, Airline Crew)

   • Each market segment is linked to one market group.

   • Description of that segment, which rate plans it's linked to and the status (active/disabled)
2. Search by Market Segment name or code
3. Create a custom Market Segment tool
4. Edit an existing Market Segment
5. Set the segment as default: 
   • The default market segment will be assigned to:

     • Reservations without a market segment on the rate plan or base rate.

     • Manually created reservations if no segment is chosen.

6. Disable the segment - disabling the market segment removes all rate plans selected for this segment. 
7. Delete a market segment:
   • Only possible if the segment hasn’t been used in any reservation or rate plan.
   • Only custom market segments can be deleted.

Create a Custom Market Segment

1. Click to add + Market Segment on the top right and fill out the new Market Segment details:
2. Market Group: Contract, Group, Transient,
3. Market Segment name
4. Code
5. Description
6. Rate plans that will be linked to this segment
7. Click to add market segment
