Cloudbeds App - How to take a payment

Overview

Currently, you can make total balance-due payments for reservations in the Cloudbeds App using the Tap to Pay option. Tap to Pay lets users accept in-person contactless payments with a compatible consumer device and the Stripe Terminal SDK. It requires familiarity with the Terminal SDK and expertise in Android or iOS.

  •  Make sure you have Cloudbeds Payments set up for your account; otherwise, the Tap to Pay function won't work.
  • To take a payment, the customer should be next to you with his card.
  • The guest can tap their phone with an Apple Wallet to pay. In this case, the Apple Wallet is just as if the guest was tapping their card. It is easily confused with Apple Pay, but it is not the same. Similar confusion happens with Google Pay vs. Google Wallet.
  • Allow the Cloudbeds app to use your location. Your precise location is used to accept card payments and prevent fraud.
  • Our mobile app supports Tap-to-Pay, but not all devices have the necessary hardware. iPads, for instance, are not compatible, while most modern Android tablets are. Ensure your device is equipped for Tap-to-Pay.

Supported Countries

  1. USA: for Android and iOS
  2. United Kingdom (UK): Android only
  3. New Zealand: Android only
  4. Singapore: Android only
  5. Canada: Android only

Minimum support requirements for Tap to Pay:

  • An iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.0 or later in the United States.
  • An iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.4 or later in Australia and the United Kingdom.
  • An iPhone XS or later running iOS 17.0 or later in France.
  • Android 9 or greater
  • Your device must be up to date with the latest versions of Android. You can check for available updates in the Settings app.

Cloudbeds PMS prerequisites

You need to have the following features configured in order to use Tap to Pay:

  • CBPay Stripe
  • Hardware Terminals
  1. Complete the Stripe onboarding process to be able to take payments through Cloudbeds PMS. This includes the onboarding and application process which requires approval from Stripe.
    To verify the account is set properly, your Payment page should have Connected status:

2. You must enable the Accept Card-Present Payments toggle on the payment options page, even if you have no physical terminals. This feature only has to be turned on for the Mobile App to be allowed to take Tap to Pay payments.

After you complete the steps above, you should be able to accept Tap payments in the Mobile App provided that you are using a supported mobile phone and credit card brand.

How to use

Open the Cloudbeds app and follow the steps below:

  1. Access reservations
  2. Find the reservation that needs to be paid
  3. Click on the Credit Card image next to the reservation that needs to be paid
  4. Hold the customer's card against your phone screen to pay
  5. Wait until the payment is done.

You can only collect the full Balance Due amount through the app. To collect a different amount, visit Cloudbeds PMS in your browser.
