Requirements Cloudbeds Insights with the appropriate Author permission and a custom report containing the fields you want to visualize.
Expected result A chart configured with the chart type, title, label, and data series that support your reporting goal.
Limitations A data series must first be included in the report table before it can be used in the chart. Charts can be downloaded separately, but they are not included in the table export.

Introduction

Cloudbeds Insights lets you add charts to a custom or saved report so you can visualize selected report data without changing the underlying table. The chart uses fields already included in the custom report, and you can configure how those fields are presented through the Chart Editor.

Charts remain connected to the report but can be managed independently from the table display. You can change the chart configuration or remove a chart without deleting the report table, and you can download the chart separately when you need the visualization as an image.

Use the sections below to understand how charts work, add and configure a chart, or create stacked bar and combo visualizations.

Understand chart behavior

Before configuring a visualization, keep in mind how the chart relates to the custom report and its table data:

  • The chart visualizes data from the report rather than replacing the report table.
  • A field must be added to the report's Table Outline before it can be used as a chart series.
  • You can configure the chart type and the series used in the visualization.
  • Removing the chart does not delete or modify the report table.
  • The chart can be downloaded separately, but it is not included when the table data is exported.

Add and configure a chart

Charts are added from an existing custom report. Start by opening the report you want to visualize:

  1. Open the Main Menu Main menu icon in the upper-left corner of Cloudbeds PMS.
  2. Select Reporting Reporting icon.png
  3. Select the Reports tab.
  4. Open the custom report you want to use.

From inside the report, use the report actions menu to insert the chart. The animation below shows where this option is located:

Follow the numbered controls shown in the next images to add and configure the chart:

  1. Click the three-dots menu in the upper-right corner of the report.
  2. Select Insert chart.

The report actions menu displays Insert chart with the other available report actions:

After you insert the chart, the Chart Editor opens beside the report. Continue with the numbered settings shown in the editor:

  1. Select chart type: Choose the visualization that fits the data you want to present. Options shown in the Chart Editor include Line, Bar, Combo, Area, Pie, Sunburst, Treemap, Geomap, and Calendar heatmap.
  2. Chart title: Enter a title that identifies what the visualization represents.
  3. Label: Review the field used to label or group the data points in the visualization.
  4. Series: Review the metrics included in the chart. A field must already be included in the report table before you can use it as a series.
  5. Table Outline: Add or remove the report fields and groupings that provide the data available to the chart.

The Chart Editor displays the chart configuration on the right and the corresponding Table Outline on the left:

Create stacked bar and combo charts

Bar and combo charts provide additional ways to compare multiple data series. Use a stacked bar chart when you want series to build on one another within each category, or use a combo chart when different series need different visualization types or axes.

Expand the option that matches the visualization you want to create.

Create a stacked bar chart

Start from the custom report where you want to add the visualization. Open the Main Menu Main menu icon and select Reporting Reporting icon.png> Reports. Open the report, click the three-dots menu, and select Insert chart.

  1. In Select chart type, choose Bar.
  2. Under Stacking, select:
    • Standard to stack the series using their values.
    • 100% to normalize each category so the complete stack represents 100%.

The Stacking menu appears after you select the Bar chart type:

Chart Editor with Bar selected and the Stacking menu showing None, Standard, and 100% options.

With Standard stacking, each series keeps its original scale while contributing to the total height of the bar:

With 100% stacking, each bar is normalized to 100% so you can compare the proportion contributed by each series:

Create a combo chart

Start from the custom report where you want to add the visualization. Open the Main Menu Main menu icon and select Reporting Reporting icon.png> Reports. Open the report, click the three-dots menu, and select Insert chart.

  1. In Select chart type, choose Combo.
  2. Under Series, click Edit series chart type.

The Combo chart settings provide a separate editor for choosing how each series is displayed:

  1. In Edit series chart type, select Line, Bar, or Area for each series as needed. You can also assign each series to the Left or Right axis.
  2. Click Apply.

The series editor lets you configure each series independently before applying the changes:

Edit series chart type window showing Line, Bar, and Area options, Left and Right axis controls, and the Apply button.

After you apply the settings, the chart displays the configured series using the selected visualization types and axes:

Once the chart is configured, you can use it alongside the report table to interpret the selected data visually and adjust the report fields or chart settings when your reporting needs change.
