PIE - Rate Shopper

The Rate Shopper allows you to compare your rates with your compsets. It shows your property's rates and occupancy as well as the market data in a detailed view.

You can view your competitors' lowest and highest price in their property or see the rates of the Selected Accommodations in the compsets.

Things to know

  • Once the compsets have been created, the Rate Shopper tool will display the data returned for each of them.
  • If your competitor is no longer available on the specified OTA website, the following message will appear: "[Hotel name] is no longer available on [website name]. Please remove it from your compset or select a different source".
  • The Rate Shopper only shows the hotel rates for Minimum Length of Stay (MinLOS). If the property has a higher restriction in place on the channel, e.g. 2 days, then it will be listed as Closed.
  • If the property has several rates in the channel for a different number of guests, only the rate assigned to 1 guest will be retrieved. It won't be possible to retrieve the rates for 2 or more guests.
  • If the property does not have a 1-guest rate in the channel, e.g. 2 guests, then it will be listed as Closed.

Access the Rate Shopper

Starting from the PIE section of your Main Menu, click on the Rate Shopper page:

Channels that can be shopped for competitors' prices

Here is the list of channels that PIE can shop for competitors' prices. Note that this list is constantly updated as we continue to add more channels:

Rate Shopper Overview

  1. Display: Select whether you want to display the rates of every individual competitor (All Properties) or the peaks and averages of all competitors in a compset (Compset High/Low). The data shown on the 90-Day Graph will depend on what is selected in this Display setting.
  2. Compset: Select one of your compsets to compare the rates. You will see the first compset in the list as the default view; you can always change the order of your compsets.

  1. Ranking by Price: You may choose to show the Highest Prices or Lowest Prices in your property and between your competitors; the default is Lowest Prices. You can also choose Selected Accommodations to show the prices of the accommodations selected on the Compsets page.
  2. Compare: Select specific properties from the selected compset to be displayed (available when All Properties is selected in Display).

1. Display Options

All Properties

If you select All Properties in Display, the 90 Day Graph shows the rates of each individual competitor in the selected compset. You can:

  1. Drag the range ruler (max 90 days).
  2. Review rates for each property.
  3. Click any data point to review details.
  4. The competitors’ prices are color-coded.
  5. A timestamp above the graph reflects the last scheduled price shop.
  6. Use the Compset filter to select a compset.
  7. Select Ranking by Price to show Lowest/Highest Prices or Selected Accommodations (from Compsets).
  8. Compare your rates with specific properties.

  1. A broken line means the property is Closed (not available, sold out, or has a stay restriction).

Compset High/Low

If you select Compset High/Low in Display, the Rate Shopper shows the peak and average prices of all your competitors in the selected compset. You can click points to review: Your Rates, Compset High/Low/Average, Property, Amount.

  1. Your Rates: Your current base rates.
  2. Compset Average: Average of all rates across all compset properties and room types/selected accommodations (closed properties are excluded from the average).
  3. Compset High: Highest rate across the compset.
  4. Compset Low: Lowest rate across the compset.

3. Ranking by Price

Overview

With this option, the Selected Accommodations option displays competitors' rates for the accommodations previously selected on the Compsets page.

  Changing the Ranking by Price section will change the price shown for Your Rates, Compset High, Compset Low, and Compset Average.

Lowest Prices

  • Your Rates: Shows the lowest price of all the room types in your property.
  • Compset High: Highest price out of all the “low-priced” rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Low: Lowest price out of all “low-priced” rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Average: Average price of all “low-priced” rooms in the compset.

Highest Prices

  • Your Rates: Shows the highest price of all the room types in your property.
  • Compset High: Highest price out of all the “high-priced” rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Low: Lowest price out of all “high-priced” rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Average: Average price of all “high-priced” rooms in the compset.

Selected Accommodations

  • Your Rates: Shows the price of My Property's Accommodation selected on the Compsets page.
  • Compset High: Highest price from all competitors’ selected rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Low: Lowest price from all competitors’ selected rooms in the compset.
  • Compset Average: Average price from all competitors’ selected rooms in the compset.

4. Compare

The Compare drop-down allows you to select specific properties from the list of competitors included in the selected Compset to be shown and compared in the graphics:

90-Day Metrics

90-Day Graph

The 90-Day Graph offers an overview of the price shop, including your property rates and your compsets.

  Currently the rates are refreshed every 24 hours, but the timestamp does not change if rates remain the same. Data is displayed for the upcoming 90 days (rolling).

90-Day Calendar

The Calendar section displays your competitors' rates in a table by date. You can set filters to select which data to display:

  1. The default setting for Ranking by Price is Lowest Prices.
  2. The table’s data depends on the Display setting. See each option below.

Display: All Properties

  • Shows rates of each individual competitor in the selected compset.
  • Use Ranking by Price to show Highest Prices, Lowest Prices, or Selected Accommodations (from the Compsets page).

  Rates are refreshed every 24 hours. The timestamp may not change if rates stay the same. Data covers the upcoming rolling 90 days.

  1. My Property is highlighted in blue. A ranking below My Property shows how your property compares among competitors.

  Ranking is always from most to least expensive, regardless of the selected Ranking by Price.
Example: 2/4 means your property is the second most expensive in the current view.

  1. Competitor prices are color coded:
    • Green — prices above My Property
    • Red — prices below My Property
    • Black — equal to My Property
  2. The small arrow shows delta since the last refresh:
    • Red arrow down — price decreased since yesterday
    • Green arrow up — price increased since yesterday
  3. Status Closed appears when a property is not available, sold out, or has a stay restriction.

Display: Compset High/Low

Shows the peak and average prices of all competitors in the selected compset.

  1. My Property: Your current base rate
  2. Compset High: Highest rate across all properties (all room types)
  3. Compset Low: Lowest rate across all properties (all room types)
  4. Compset Average: Average of all rates across all properties (all room types). When a property is closed/not available for a date, it’s excluded from the average for that date.

Ranking by Price

Changing the Ranking by Price setting adjusts the values for Your Rates, Compset High, Compset Low, and Compset Average.

Lowest Prices

  • Your Rates: Lowest price among your room types.
  • Compset High: Highest among all competitors’ “low-priced” rooms.
  • Compset Low: Lowest among all competitors’ “low-priced” rooms.
  • Compset Average: Average of all competitors’ “low-priced” rooms.

Highest Prices

  • Your Rates: Highest price among your room types.
  • Compset High: Highest among all competitors’ “high-priced” rooms.
  • Compset Low: Lowest among all competitors’ “high-priced” rooms.
  • Compset Average: Average of all competitors’ “high-priced” rooms.

Selected Accommodations

  • Your Rates: Price of My Property’s Accommodation selected on the Compsets page.
  • Compset High/Low/Average: Calculated using competitors’ selected rooms.
