Introduction
A global distribution system (GDS) is a computerized network system owned or operated by a company that enables transactions between travel industry service providers, mainly airlines, hotels, car rental companies, and travel agencies.
Cloudbeds connects properties to GDS networks through GDS distributors. The available distributors provide access to major GDS networks such as Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport. Depending on the distributor, Travelport connectivity may include Galileo, Worldspan, and Apollo.
Important GDS requirements
- Not every property will be accepted. GDS distributors assess whether a property meets their requirements before approving the application.
- OpenGDS does not distribute properties to the GDS networks described in this article.

GDS requirements
Requirements vary slightly by provider. To make the most of GDS distribution and be considered for access, properties generally need to meet the following minimum thresholds:
- ADR of USD 150 or above.
- 15 rooms minimum.
- Preferably hotels rated 3 stars and above. No hostels.
- Strong preference for properties that have high business or corporate travel guests. Leisure travel is preferred when geared toward luxury travel or major destinations where travel agents are commonly used.
- Preference for properties in city centers and near airports.
Meeting these thresholds does not guarantee acceptance. The GDS distributor assesses the property before approving the application.
