What is the Kiosk Mode?

Kiosk Mode - part of the Guest Experience feature - transforms your hotel lobby into a self-service check-in/check-out station using tablets. It helps guests avoid lines and allows your staff to provide personalized, mobile check-ins anywhere on the property.

Enable the Kiosk Mode in Cloudbeds Mobile App

Important

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the Cloudbeds Mobile App.
  • After finishing the configuration, test the flows (check-in, check-out, timeouts) before guest use. 
  1. Go to Guest Kiosk Mode settings
  2. Configure your tablets with Guided Access (iOS) or Pinned App (Android).
  3. Launch the Kiosk Mode and pin it.
  4. Place tablets in your lobby or with roaming staff.

How Guests Use the Kiosk Mode

  1. Approach the Kiosk Tablet in the lobby.
  2. Authenticate quickly by entering the required information (Last Name, First Name, Arrival Date and/or Reservation ID).
  3. If a guest has more than one active reservation, the Kiosk automatically presents a reservation selection screen.
  4. Proceed with Check-in or Check-out:
    1. Check-in: Confirm details, verify ID with front camera, pay balance if required, receive room details.
    2. Check-out: Review final bill, settle charges, and get a digital receipt.
    3. If more reservations are available, the guest is prompted to select their next reservation. No logout or re-authentication is required. This process can be repeated until all reservations are completed.
  5. Sign Out Securely: The system auto-logs out after inactivity or at session end.

How Staff Uses the Kiosk Mode

  1. To Launch Kiosk Mode:
    1. Enable the Kiosk Mode (Guided Access (iOS) or Pinned App (Android)).
    2. Authenticate with the device´s PIN or biometric unlock.
  2. To Exit Kiosk Mode: Enter the device’s PIN, password, or biometric unlock.
  3. To Manage Settings: Access role-based kiosk settings in the Cloudbeds Mobile App (e.g., inactivity timeouts).

Security & Limitations

  • Locked Environment: Guests cannot leave Kiosk Mode without staff intervention.  Only individuals with the device PIN/facial-recognition are the ones who are able to exit Kiosk mode.
  • Device Security: Ensure you use secure mounts/enclosures, and properly secure your tablets, in order to prevent tampering or theft of your devices.
  • No Tap-to-Pay (yet): Current version only supports traditional payment capture.
  • Manual Setup: Staff must manually enable/disable Kiosk Mode on each device.

  • I just tried out Kiosk mode for myself, it looks like it will be useful as we check-in guests and make sure they've signed their waiver, provided additional guest information, etc. One thing I would suggest to make check-in even faster in Kiosk mode is to have a big option for "Today" when selecting arrival date. It'll save a couple moments when guests and staff look at the calendar, trying to remember the date, and trying to find today's date on there.

    Plus, that's when Kiosk mode would be most used right? For the most part, it would be guests who are checking in today that are the ones at the front desk using Kiosk mode.
