Overview
Google Ads is Google's advertising platform. This article outlines how to integrate Google Ads directly into the Cloudbeds Booking Engine for conversion tracking.
Before getting started
- While the recommended approach for configuring Google Ads is through Google Tag Manager (GTM) for centralized tracking, enhanced insights, and flexibility, this guide is intended for properties that prefer to integrate Google Ads directly with the Booking Engine.
- Note that direct integration may require manual updates for tag management and may not offer the same level of advanced tracking or data consistency as GA4 (Google Analytics 4) and GTM (Google Tag Manager).
If you do not include your Conversion Label, a Page Load Conversion Action will trigger, which could cause double conversions. To avoid data discrepancy, ensure you have included both your Conversion ID and Conversion Label.
Step-by-step guide
Initial configuration
Before integrating Google Ads directly, ensure you have the following ready:
-
Conversion action created:
- Log in to your Google Ads account.
- Create the conversion action you need to track (e.g., purchases) under Goals > Conversions > Summary.
-
Conversion details:
- Note down the Conversion ID and Conversion Label generated for your conversion action. The tracking code will use these details.
Configure Google Ads on Cloudbeds PMS via GA4 connection setting
- In the Account menu of Cloudbeds PMS, go to the Settings
page and click on the Booking Engine section
- Go to the Analytics tab
- Select GA4 connection, which will display two input fields for entering your Google Ads Conversion ID and Google Ads Conversion Label.
- Enter the conversion details. Cloudbeds PMS supports entering the Conversion ID with or without the "AW-" prefix. To trigger the conversion event correctly, include the "AW-" prefix (e.g., AW-1234567890).
- Click to Save
Configuring Google Ads with Google Tag Manager
For GTM connections, Google Ads must be configured directly in GTM. To set up your conversion tracking via Google Tag Manager, follow the steps defined by Google Tag Manager in Google's setup article.
