Shared Inventory Guide 2: Linking a Dorm and a Private Accommodation

Shared inventory is the practice of selling the same physical room under multiple layouts. For more info, please read our Shared Inventory FAQ and Shared Inventory Overview articles.

  • Purpose: Selling the same physical room as both a private room or a dorm. Example: Listing one of your rooms online as either a private room or a 4-person dorm.
  • Recommended Property Types: Hostels, Campground, any other properties offering dorms

Things To Keep In Mind:

  • Make sure to follow these steps exactly.
  • Do not link accommodations which are separate physical rooms. Shared inventory must be different layouts for the same physical room.
  • You may want to rearrange your linked room types so that they are close to each other on the calendar, read our article about how to do that.
Before Starting:
  • Make sure to create any additional accommodation types needed.
    • Example: If you want to sell the same room as both a private and a 4-person dorm, you will need to make sure you have one of both of those added. 
    • You may need to increase your accommodation limit to do this.
  • Read through the Shared Inventory section of our knowledge base for further info.
Linking Accommodations Steps:

1. In myfrontdesk go to the 'Shared inventory' page

2. Click on "Link Accommodations". Read the warning and agree with the terms. If you do no not agree, you cannot use Shared Inventory.

3. Select your dorm as the primary accommodation type

  • Only one room of dorm beds can be linked at a time.
  • Make sure you add the correct number of dorm beds for this , the system does not currently check this.

4. Additional private accommodation types can be added, but only one unit from each

  • Make sure there is only one unit from each linked private accommodation type selected.
  • Not following these instructions could potentially cause inaccurate availability.
  • When you are finished, click save.

 Your accommodations have now been linked!

To link another set of rooms, click on "link accommodations" and repeat this process.

5. Click SAVE
